Folks, we have just passed the 1,000 mark, with no end in sight. What the hell is going on?

So our mission is to show these people "how to be free"? Sounds a lot like Kipling, "White Man's Burden" and all that. And it still doesn't answer the question, why are we there? If it's because Hussein was a tyrant, well the Saudi Royal family are also tyrants, Mugabe in Zimbabwe is a tyrant, Kim in Noth Korea is a tyrant. The world is full of tyrants. Is it because Iraq was tied to Al Qaeda (not)? WMDs? We've been given a million different reasons. Why are we there and why are American kids being killed?

"Because our resources are limited and they aren't a player in the world economy like South Korea and the oil rich areas of the Middle East are"

So you agree with me, we're not in Iraq because of freedom and democracy. We're there because of oil and money. It's this mindset that keeps anything being done for the poor, here or abroad. Why bother? They don't vote anyway. What can they do for us? And both parties are guilty of this. Neither candidate has stated what they would do to address the problem of poverty in America. But that's the topic of a later posting.

And one more, thing. This, from Reuters:

The commission that investigated the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks has said it had not discovered any evidence of a "collaborative" relationship" between the fallen Iraqi government and al Qaeda.
