Hilary Sucks
My wife thinks Hilary Clinton is awesome. I thinks she sucks - well, not really. If she did, Bill wouldn't have gotten into trouble. Anyway, Hilary:

You should listen to your FW. Hilary supports a law prohibiting flag desecration, but does not think the constitution should be amended for it. I have to agree with that - we should not be amending the constitution for every little thing. But I also agree that she is playing the middle. Although she kind of has to if she wants to make a run at being president.
But supporting a law prohibiting flag desecration is wrong. And I have to think un-constitutional -
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Either we have a 1st amendment or we don't. And I also think it's wrong to make burning a cross a crime. If a person's a bigot, banning that person from expressing that bigotry isn't going to make him/her less of a bigot.
To quote the ACLU "If we take away the right to dissent - no matter how unpopular - what unpopular freedom will be sacrificed next? The First Amendment must most be protected when it comes to unpopular speech. Failure to do so fails the very notion of freedom of expression"
It's a tricky issue. While I understand the slippery slope that happens when you make exceptions to free speech, blatant acts of bigotry push the boundaries of free speech. I know you are going to say that's what makes this a good country. And you're right. But, it's also a matter of respecting the country you live in. If you don't like it then get out. Wow, I'm sounding like a Republican now.
Well, I'd say if you don't like it, vote to change it. That's the whole point behind a democracy. As far as respecting the country I live in, given the lack of respect my people have historically received from this country, I'd say any ounce of respect the USA gets from me is hardly deserved. Granted, it's the best country in the world to live in (though Canada is looking pretty damn good right about now), but that doesn't mean we're "beacon on the hill" we're supposed to be.
